Espigueiro

Espigueiro is a granary built with stone, raised from the ground by pillars to avoid the access of rodents. The origin of the espigueiros is the horreum from the Roman Empire. They can be found in northern Portugal, as well as northern Spain aaand Sweden.

I photographed this one in a little village called Brufe, in the very north of Portugal. Peculiar, right?
